Mrs Murray and Miss Lawson took a group of students to Fiji. The students travelled right around the main island visiting schools, villages, cultural centres and Parliament. Numerous people from Fiji were interviewed and filmed by the students.

10TH INTERNATIONAL THINKING CONFERENCE 2002

Harrogate, England

Mr Coote, Mrs Niven and Mr Neubert travelled to Harrogate in Yorkshire, England to attend the 10th International Thinking Conference. They were there to meet and talk to international experts on the teaching of thinking skills.

Famous people they met included Edward Be Bono the man who invented the six thinking hats. They also meet Erik de Corte, Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Leuven, Howard Gardner, Professor of Cognition and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Art Costa, Emeritus Professor of Education, California State University and Director of Educational Programmes for NASA.

Fiji Tour 2002

Fiji

Namuamua is a village of about 300 people. On our visit to Namuamua our guide William told us about village life. We have written it just the way it he said it to us.

Water
“There is a water tank up there (on the hillside). Now they have got running water. Before they stood in the rain and they boiled river water. Now they have got the proper running water from the spring and just a few months back they brought flush toilets for every house in the village. They have proper flush toilets now.”

Fiji Tour 2002

Our Trip To Fiji

Everyone was excited as the sixteen students and two teachers of Birkdale Intermediate School took off from Auckland Airport on a three hour flight to Nadi Fiji. We stepped off the plane and immediately felt the humidity in the air, a hot and sticky feeling came over us, we were in Fiji.

After a pretty sleepless night at Nadi Hotel we bussed to Denerau and boarded the ferry to Beachcomber Island. Everyone was really excited as we then went on the glass bottomed boats to shore. After checking in to the resort and exploring we went to watch a turtle feeding followed by us watching a bidding for an international crab race.
