Text to Collect Please

Mon Mar 21 09:00am

Thank you for coming to collect your child.  The main entrance is flooded so please stay in your car, text YOUR CHILD that you are here or text 0274848685 with name of child and we will send the child out for collection.  If another parent is collecting your child, please let us know who.

If you cannot collect, then your child can remain at school today.  We will organise activities in the library and hall.

Mon Mar 21 08:49am

We have made the decision to close for instruction today.   Flooding and very wet students makes it unsafe for our students to remain in a regular class programme.  If you cannot pick up your child, please contact the school as we will remain open for supervision.

Please come and pick children up from the hall. Text your child when you are here and we can send them out to your car.  Thank you for understanding.

A message from Auckland Transport Re: Buses

Thu Mar 10 09:36am

Good afternoon schools

Please find below an update from the Auckland Transport Metro Bus Team.

Tāmaki Makaurau is at the red setting of the COVID-19 Protection Framework. As Omicron spreads, many bus operators are experiencing staff shortages and service cancellations across bus, train, and ferry services.

Although Auckland Transport is working hard to update cancellations in our systems, there may be some occasions when these are last-minute and can’t be communicated in time. We recommend checking service updates on the AT Mobile app, Live Departures, or on digital signs at stops and stations.

If you’re using AT school Bus.

We are trying our best to make school bus services our priority and run most school bus services to a regular timetable. However, we are expecting to see last-minute cancellations due to the spread of Omicron in the community. Although we’re working hard to update cancellations in our systems, there may be some occasions when these are last-minute and can’t be communicated in time. If any of your bus services do not arrive on time, please liaise with the students, and request them to find or use alternative transport options. https://at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/journey-planner/. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause.

Kind regards                                                                                  The Travelwise Team

Kia ora e te whānau,

A message from our Principal
We had some great plans but covid had a slightly different plan for us.  We have started this week with staff shortages and lots of students away.

Many students are absent due to having a household contact or because the whānau are choosing to stay home to protect themselves from the virus.  Regardless of the reasons for being away, please phone or email Whaea Jenny in our school office to let her know if your child will not be at school.  We have 145 students away today.  If you have not informed us, then Jenny has to phone to check on your child’s whereabouts.  This is for your child’s safety.

We had planned to have online teaching running each day but this may not happen as we experience staff shortages.  Check the google classroom for updates but please be aware that we cannot guarantee an online programme if we are short staffed.  Students should have their home learning books in their school bags and these do have photocopied sheets of work that can be completed at home.  We also recommend daily reading, maths basic facts revision, watching or listening to current events, exploring the natural environment around your own house.

From tomorrow, students will remain in their whānau class room with their whānau teacher for the whole day.  We do not have enough staff for subject teaching and are struggling to get relief staff.  All staff are contributing to the planning across the school to ensure continuity of each subject.

Rocky Shore Trip
We have made the difficult decision to cancel our planned Rocky Shore trips that were scheduled for 15 and 16 March.  With low numbers attending each day and staff away, it is too difficult to plan this trip.  We may be able to reschedule at a time when our lives are not so affected by covid.

Thank you for being vigilant with mask wearing, safe health practices and keeping your child home if they are unwell.  Now is the time to focus on wellbeing.  We know that it is disruptive but we also know that this will pass.

Thank you for your ongoing support.  Stay well everyone.

JoAnne Sutton

An IMPORTANT reminder – It’s hot at School!

Mon Feb 21 03:42pm

Kia ora e te whånau,

Students need to have large drink bottles filled with water at school with them everyday.
Students need to wear hats when outside.
Students need to be changing into PE gear for physical activity.

We know that it is hot inside and that mask wearing is making this almost unbearable.  Please remind your child to wear their uniform without anything under it (t-shirt or singlet) and to leave sweatshirts at home.

The Warehouse in Glenfield has lots of school hats available for purchase.  Your child needs this when outside.

We have modified our drinking fountains so they can be used to refill a drink bottle but many students are not bringing these to school.  They are definitely needed at the moment.

Take care everyone, Ngå mihi nui.
