Alert Level 3 Update

Mon Sep 20 06:29pm

Kia ora e te whānau,

As you heard today, Auckland moves into alert level 3 at midnight on Tuesday 21nd September. this means that our school is open for students who are the children of essential workers (from Wednesday the 22nd September) who have no other childcare arrangements.

If your child will be attending school in level 3, you must register them with Katrina Bush so we can add them to a bubble. There will be 10 students in a bubble and we have offered places to siblings to keep whānau in the same bubble. To register, email – kbush@bis.school.nz

Birkdale Intermediate will be open from 9am – 3pm each day and students must be dropped off and picked up from the front gate. Students must bring their own stationery, lunch and drink bottle and must adhere to level 3 health and safety practices. Unwell students must not attend school.

Once your child is registered, Mrs. Bush will confirm this with an email to you telling you what bubble your child will be in and what room they will work in.

At the start of the year, we planned and informed parents of a teacher-only day on Friday 1 October. We will be continuing with this teacher-only day meaning that the last day of term 3 will be Thursday 30 September.

Level 4 Update

Mon Aug 23 12:03pm

Thank you all for your support of our online learning programmes while we are at alert level 4.

Our staff are all prepared for zoom meetings/google meets and email contact from students. We have made up and delivered 70 hard copy packs of learning materials over the weekend. Some of these are still being delivered today. These will be delivered to a letterbox so there is no contact. Teachers have identified students who need hard copies based on their access to a digital device. We are awaiting MOE guidance about what we will send out if level 4 continues.

As you are aware, the virus is in and around our community. We currently have 6 staff members who are in self-isolation due to being in an area of interest. Some staff are required to be tested for covid due to places they’ve been or people they have been with. This could mean that a teacher may be unavailable for online contact as they wait to be tested.

We ask for your continued support and encourage you to find ways to enjoy this enforced family time. The sun is out today so I urge you to get outside and STRETCH your legs.

Open Evening Postponed

Wed Aug 18 08:42am

Kia ora everyone, Due to our Level 4 situation, our open evening has been postponed until further notice. When we have more of an idea of when we can re-open we will make arrangements to either hold an open evening on another night or hold an online meeting (like we did last year).

COVID LEVEL 4 UPDATE – SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED from tomorrow the 18th of August for at least 7 days

Tue Aug 17 07:45pm

As you will have heard tonight, Auckland is now in level 4 for the next 7 days. This means that school is closed.

All whānau teachers will be spending the day tomorrow making contact with all of the students in their whānau classes to check on wellbeing and to ensure that we can be in contact with you.

All students should have home learning tasks (homework) for the week that they can work on tomorrow. Whānau teachers will outline the plan for home learning tomorrow so that students can have learning tasks to work on at home.

However, the learning environment is now your home and we want to emphasise that wellbeing is the priority at the moment. Spending time with whānau in your bubble is important and learning tasks should not impact quality time and family dynamics.

Please continue to check our website for updates. Stay well and look after each other.
