Attendance
BIS Attendance Expectations
Regular attendance at school is important to your child’s success at school. Consistent attendance is essential for learning, for developing and maintaining friendships, and for a thriving teacher-student relationship. Missing school, even for a few days, can negatively impact a student’s wellbeing at school and their ability to keep up with their learning.
Your whānau and our school are partners in supporting your child to build strong habits of regular school attendance. If your child is going to be absent for any reason, it is essential that you let us know via phone, email, or our school app, and provide us with the reason for the absence. We understand that students may occasionally be absent for genuine reasons. If your child is absent regularly, or for extended periods, we will contact you to discuss the situation.
Our school is committed to supporting you and your child. If you’re struggling at home with getting your child to school, please talk to their teacher or Deputy Principal Katrina Bush for support. Our school supports attendance every day by having:
School staff who have strong relationships with students and whānau.
A school culture that recognises your child and your whānau for who you are, where you come from and what you value.
Wellbeing supports including a weekly drop-in wellbeing clinic (Ease Up) and a school counsellor.
A school that is safe and welcoming for everyone in our school community.
